Social events

We have planned social activities on both Monday evening and Tuesday evening.

May 11: guided bus tour

We will gather in front of the Askja building at 15:45 (immediately after the coffee break). The bus tour starts at 16:00 sharp. We will return to Reykjavík around 22:00.

The guided tour will take us to the Reykjanes Peninsula. The tour starts in Krýsuvík springs, a geothermal area. The tour then goes to the fishing town of Grindavík, on the southern coast of the peninsula, where the volcano eruption was. We then continue to Reykjanes and look at Brimkatlar, natural, bowl-shaped rock formations on the coast. The tour ends on the bridge between continents, a footbridge near Sandvík that spans a fissure between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates.

May 12: conference dinner

The conference dinner will be held at the Höfnin Restaurant by the old harbour in Reykjavík.
